Social Work Services at West 74th Street Home
A full range of social services is offered to all residents of the West 74th Street Home. Our team of four professional Masters-level social workers can play a variety of roles in order to support the quality of life of our residents.
We are available to assist our residents with concrete services, such as obtaining and maintaining appropriate medical and mental health treatment, income maintenance and other entitlements, and accessing other community resources. Through in-house as well as community-based referrals, we can link residents with recreation, socialization and therapeutic day programs.
The staff will be available to coordinate and monitor any necessary hospitalizations, and will in many cases be able to visit residents during their hospital stay. In addition we will be prepared to intervene in any crisis situations - medical or otherwise - that may arise, to ensure the safety of our residents.
Another area in which we can assist is in establishing and maintaining contacts with family and friends. In addition to fostering positive social contacts, our staff will be able to provide support to both residents and their loved ones as they confront end-of -life issues.
In a broader sense, our social work staff will work to foster not only the well being of individual residents, but a sense of community within the Home. By providing supportive and therapeutic groups we hope to strengthen the mutual bonds that are the building blocks of community. We believe in the healing power of mutual self help.
